OUR PAST
What is history? It is the facts from past on a given event. Therefore the way to get facts of the past of our country is from information obtained from records of some kind.
Our tombstones in the cemeteries tells us a lot about our past families and are records which have been accepted by agencies as authentic records. Did you know that Camden County has over 100 cemeteries which contain from one grave to hundreds of graves? Birth dates and death dates are not all the Information found here. Family respect is also shown by some of the verses engraved upon the stones.
In the Glaize City Cemetery is the longest known verse which contains 132 words. This verse was written by a man in honor of his consort who
died in 1853.
In the Laughlin Cemetery, a stone shows the name of Joel Cyrus expected husband of Rhoda E. Moulder 1861-1881 while the next stone shows Rhoda E. Moulder intended of Joel Cyrus, 1850-1882.
Many of the grave markers are only field stone or sand stone and hold no information but do mark the final resting place of some one's loved one. Do we respect our dead as we should? Many times we fail to remember to decorate the graves once a year or see they are cared for, yet our ancestors
left valuable information to us which we often value as nothing.

This was before the School became home to the Camden County Historical Society. At the bottom of this article is a note that reads:
Note: Historical Society membership) dues for 1975 are two dollars per person or three dollars and fifty cents per couple. The Society meets the second Thursday of each month in the Camdenton Senior High School. We would love to have you become an active member and help us try to preserve our local history before it is lost forever. Why not join?
The dues and location of the meetings have changed, but we would still love to have you become a member!
